My Story:
For about two years, my running coach kept on telling me I should do some of the snowshoe races up at Eldora. She said it would be a great cross-training tool that would help build strength for my running. I always thought it would be very cool to try it, though never did…until last winter.I decided to try one of the races from the Nighthawk race series up at Eldora. It was very casual compared to what I'm use to in high school cross country and track, but I thought, “How refreshing!” I didn't warm-up for the race or go outside until they called us to the line. I had no idea how to even race with those big, awkward shoes on, but I eventually got into a rhythm. It was such a cool experience to be out there in the woods under the stars, without the buzz of everything else. For a while, it was just me - by myself. Not really sure where I was going or how much further I had; although, that's what made it fun. I would occasionally see a bobbing head lamp somewhere out in the distance; but for the most part, I was by myself, just soaking everything up. From that point on, I was hooked on snowshoeing.
