My Story:
Growing up in Upstate New York, snowshoeing has traditionally been an important part of the recreational culture. I began racing as a high school sophomore in Corinth NY, a small Adirondack town which has been referred to as "The Snowshoe Capital of the World." Although my original plan was only to cross-train for the up-coming track season, I quickly fell in love with the sport and the high level of endurance it required. I was persuaded by the town's snowshoe coach to participate in Empire State Games, a multi-sport event for amateur athletes which is patterned after the Olympic Games. After winning a gold, silver and bronze medal, I was tired, frostbitten and hooked on snowshoeing. Since that time I have continued to train, competing at the state, national and international level. I have worked to promote the recreational and health benefits of snowshoeing by hosting clinics with local sports retailers as well as private middle school assemblies, thanks to one of my wonderful
